RIMOWA Design Prize 2025: a celebration of mobility

For its third edition, the RIMOWA Design Prize continues to tackle the ever-evolving theme of mobility.

Following a ceremony at Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin on May 13th, the Maison congratulates Elisabeth Lorenz and Marc Hacklaender, who were selected as winners. Additionally, Niels Cremer and Tom Kemter earned the special mention prize.

For the final stage, seven projects were selected as finalists from Germany's top design universities after the careful consideration of the prize’s design experts: Ute Meta Bauer, Pierre-Jorge Gonzalez & Judith Haase, Niklas Bildstein Zaar, Mahret Ifeoma Kupka, Moritz Krueger, Katharina Janku, Nic Galway. They were also joined by honorary jury members, CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert and Chairman Alexandre Arnault.

Explore the details of the winning projects below:

“Hottie”, Marc Hacklaender and Elisabeth Lorenz

— from Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd

Mentored by Nic Galway

‘Hottie’ combines TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) technology with heat therapy to effectively relieve menstrual discomfort, providing comfort on the go. TENS sends gentle electrical impulses through the skin, blocking pain signals and stimulating endorphin production. With one in ten women experiencing severe symptoms, ‘Hottie’ provides reliable relief when you need it most.

“Standalone” by Tom Kemter and Niels Cremer

— from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Mentored by Pierre Jorge Gonzalez and Judith Haase

Standalone aims to redefine the image and functionality of the classic forearm crutch. The use of high-end, human-centered materials, combined with its modern, innovative design, helps combat the social stigma surrounding forearm crutches, while its unique ability to stand freely on flat surfaces adds a new dimension to its usability.
