A Journey of Colour and Craft with Ptolemy Mann
A Journey of Colour and Craft with Ptolemy Mann
With its seasonal Essential collections, RIMOWA has always showcased its masterful play with colour. Now, alongside the release of two new hues Nautical and Ginger, the German Maison takes its exploration of colour theory to new heights through a special project with British artist Ptolemy Mann.
At the centre of the project is the Nautical, a seasonal elegant shade of deep midnight blue that saturates the RIMOWA Essential collection this winter. For the special project, RIMOWA and Mann present a limited-edition series of the RIMOWA Essential Cabin Threshold, featuring an exclusive iteration of Mann’s ‘Threshold’ artwork on the RIMOWA Essential Cabin Nautical.
Mann is celebrated for her large-scale works and distinctive use of colour. Her early work involved hand-dyed, woven canvases with emotive colour and texture, later evolving into her renowned "Thread Paintings," characterised by sweeping, abstract expressionist gestures. With RIMOWA, a unique version of her art has been translated onto the polycarbonate shell of the RIMOWA suitcase. The limited-edition collection is comprised of 1000 numbered pieces.
The design features layered ink that replicates the texture and brushstrokes of Mann's paintings. Unprinted sections of the shell reveal the grooved polycarbonate beneath, adding depth and a three-dimensional effect that reflects her textile-inspired artistry. The journey through Mann’s work extends to the Cabin suitcase’s interior. Inside, travellers will find a continued expression of Mann’s deep connection to colour, highlighted by a blue-tinted brushstroke printed on the RIMOWA flex divider.
