RIMOWA UNVEILS THE FOURTH ISSUE OF DER EIGENE, THE WORLD'S FIRST GAY JOURNAL
Marking its fourth year back into circulation, RIMOWA celebrates Pride Month with the latest issue of Der Eigene, a queer publication first founded in 1896 in Germany.
Focusing on literature, art, photography and politics, the journal founded by publisher and activist Adolf Brand had a large impact on queer history. The title of the journal has no easy English equivalent, but translates as “The Own” or “Self-Possessed”, referencing self-ownership and acceptance.
Revived by RIMOWA in 2022, today ‘Der Eigene’ explores the lives of queer people. For its 4th edition, RIMOWA is thrilled to partner with celebrated photographer Collier Schorr on a collection of 15 portraits of personalities from in and around New York’s queer cultural scene. Spanning ages, identities and genders, each subject features two of Collier Schorr’s signature black and white portrait photographs, and a short Q&A exploring belonging, community and travel. Together they create a snapshot of contemporary queer American life in and around New York City.
