ABOUT THE ARTIST

Anton Poon

Anton Poon (b. 1989) is a Hong Kong-based artist with a Master's in Visual Arts from the Australian National University, where he also served as a lecturer and technical officer.

His art explores childhood experiences across diverse homes and cultures, fostering self-discovery and resilience. He contrasts the robust nature of steel with the delicate aspects of human experience through geometric shapes and materials.

Anton’s creative process is organic, embracing exploration. He believes there are no absolute rights or wrongs in art; what matters is whether the pieces resonate with him, reflecting unique journeys in modern life.

Go With The Flow

The sculpture, “Go With The Flow”, draws inspiration from Transportkästen , one of the archive specialty of RIMOWA for carrying basses and violins. I was captivated by their functionality and silhouette.

My aim is to use this pattern as a foundation for my work, honoring the classic design while integrating elements of pencil shavings—an aspect that inspired me during my earlier exploration of form. By merging this traditional design with the organic shapes of pencil shavings, I have created a piece that reflects both my artistic journey and the legacy of RIMOWA as a brand.

Bestowal

The sculpture "Bestowal" is inspired by tunnels and the Rubik's Cube. Tunnels symbolize connections between places and people, reflecting my childhood of constant travel and change.

The Rubik's Cube fascinates with its intricate layers, but my interest lies in the journey of discovery rather than achieving perfect alignment. It represents the beauty in the chaos of interpretation. By combining these influences, the work reflects the dynamic nature of human existence, capturing the dance of adaptation and the quest for harmony in life.

Compass

This sculpture, “Compass”, draws inspiration from the enigmatic Rubik's Cube and the ancient sun-dial, a device that whispers the passage of time through the dance of shadows. Shaped by my childhood journeys through diverse cultures and landscapes, I often find myself seeking a sense of direction amid the unfamiliar.

This work serves as a compass—not merely a guide to the "right" path, but a beacon illuminating the myriad possibilities of engagement. It reflects the belief that life presents us with countless ways to connect with our surroundings. The essence of success lies in our adaptability and our relentless pursuit of growth as we navigate the twists and turns of everyday existence.
