Within RIMOWA's archives lies a testament to its unwavering pursuit of excellence, so it’s only natural that a revival of some of its icons comes to fruition. Now, after celebrating its 125th anniversary, the Maison is pleased to introduce Hammerschlag, a limited-edition collection inspired by archival designs from the brand’s rich history.
Hammerschlag is a reimagining an iconic 1966 design that was referred to by the German term, meaning ‘hammer hit’ in English for its distinctive textured aluminium surface. Now, the cherished design gets a timely comeback as the Hammerschlag Hand-Carry Case, alongside a new complementary addition, the Hammerschlag Cabin.

To celebrate the launch of the Hammerschlag collection, RIMOWA turns its eye to the realm of music, drawing connections between the meticulous craftsmanship behind the cases’ unique pattern and the rhythmic motions of piano keys that produce sound . At the heart of the campaign is the renowned German musician and composer Nils Frahm, presenting a captivating performance of his track ‘Hammers’, with each note resonating with the repetitive yet nuanced movements that bring both music and design to life.

Made in Germany and featuring new functionalities to meet the needs of modern travellers, the limited-edition Hammerschlag Cabin incorporates RIMOWA’s instantly-recognisable Classic design codes, harmoniously unified with the hammered aluminium shell to capture the archival design’s spirit. The piece also features a reedition of the original leather handle in cognac leather, revisiting the distinctive metal handle bridge which made the 1966 archival design unique.
Likewise, the Hand-Carry Case Hammerschlag features the same exceptionally crafted exterior, as well as the collection's one-of-a-kind interior with a premium nylon adorned with a curved leather-made zipped compartment on its divider, with two hooks that further emphasise its archival inspiration.
