RIMOWA, together with brand friend Greg Hsu, presents the 2026 Year of the Horse campaign film. The brand also invited Peking Opera master Geng Qiaoyun to explore the poetic beauty of traditional opera art and its unique resonance with the contemporary spirit of travel.
"Horse-riding pantomime" (Tangma) is a distinctive stylized performance technique in traditional Chinese opera. Wielding a whip, performers create a vivid riding scene through symbolic abstractions. In the film, a classic horse-riding pantomime from Peking Opera unfolds on stage. Within the limited space, a vast and dynamic equestrian scene comes to life, captivating the audience with the actor's brilliant portrayal. Greg Han Hsu, seated among the spectators, watches intently—his journey across the city subtly echoing the rhythmic motions of the Peking Opera performance.
With the heart roaming thousands of miles, the heavenly steed soars across the sky. In the film, RIMOWA and fellow travelers set out for their desired destinations, creating an echo through time and space with the spirited horse-riding pantomime of traditional art. Fiction and reality unfold, overlap, and linger in the ongoing stride forward. As the new year arrives, journeys of freedom and ease come in a flying gallop, born from both imagination and action.
The film is directed by Dorothea Sing Zhang, daughter of Peking Opera master Geng Qiaoyun.
